Installing Cactiez on Dell Optiplex 280 fails

Post by bpvarsity »

Trying to install this on the dell but keep getting errors when installing. Do i need some kind of driver or what. I don't want to do virtual so i just want to put it on this computer. "error installing package: There was an error installing webmin-1.400-1. This can indicate media failure, lack of disk space..............

THanks

I wouldn't use it for Cacti, actually if I were you, I'd throw it away. I've had 14 of those exact models from the same time frame all come down with the same problem. One was fixed before it was out of warranty, the rest I've thrown away after new machines were purchased. The GX 280's are not good machines once they're past 3 years old.

Sounds like you might have a corrupted download.

As a general rule, when you download ISO's, do not use any type of download manager.

Yeah, that's the other suggestion when doing ISO's. burn them slow. Personally, I've never had a problem with downloading or burning at max speed, but I've it dozens of times on other forums where people have had those issues.

Good luck. Hopefully you get it worked out, but I'd still consider a different machine than the GX 280. I have three more of them to replace, two are going to be replaced today and 1 other in a couple of weeks. So far, the failure rate on them has been 100%.

It really depends upon how many hosts you're needing to monitor.

My machine is a P4, 2ghz, with 512M and a 120G drive.

Currently I'm monitoring 41 hosts, but when I get everything added I'll be at around 50 or maybe a couple more.

My current poller stats:

Time:24.2895 Method:spine Processes:1 Threads:2 Hosts:41 HostsPerProcess:41 DataSources:509 RRDsProcessed:315

I do need to get more RAM for mine, but since it's RIMM type, I don't want to spend the money, so I'm waiting for an identical machine to come out of service so I can swipe it's memory for it.

Ugh. That might be a little underpowered. If all you're gonna do is graphing and no syslog, weathermap and other bells and whistles, it might get you started.
