import data form old cacti installation to a new one

i have a new cacti installed and i want to import all devices and rrds from an older one. is that possible?

Yes. mysqldump the old database and restore it to the new one. You will enter the "cacti upgrade process" when hitting the web page next time.
For the rrd files: copy to new location
But in case on an architecture change: rrdtool dump and restore

indeed there is an architecture change... or so is my apache error log reporting: ERROR: This RRD was created on another architecture...

although the hosts and templates were imported nicely

would you be so kind and give me some pointers regarding rrd dumping and exporting?

If you can wait a couple more days, you're welcome to give the Cacti Migration plugin a try. N3ncy and I are almost done with it.
