[Resolved] Retrieve informations stored as string in MIBs

Post by mimiche »

Hello,
I'm trying to graph some informations from Checkpoint VSX MIB. The problem is that informations (numbers) I would like to graph are stored as String values in the MIB instead of Integer, so in Cacti's Data Sources, values are at value 0 for all this OIDs.
Is there a mean to fix it?
Regards

Hmm, from a discussion with other devs I know that it's assumed to work even with STRING type stuff as long as numbers are spit out. If running spine, please post the result of a "spine --verbosity=5 <id> <id>", where <id> is the numerical host id of the failing host

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I use cmd.php as pooler because I've got a problem with Spine. I'll try with Spine when I'll have fix this problem.

PS: I use Cacti on Windows 2003, Cacti version is 0.8.7b

You may use cmd.php as well. But in this case, you'll have to set Poller Verbosity from "Settings" to DEBUG. Switch back to narmal after running it once to avoid filling up cacti.log

The SQL errors are related to the plugin architecture. They do not interfere with your current problem. The log does not show anything about the polling from cmd.php. Please see 2nd link of my sig to learn about debugging and retry. You may post your SNMP V3 problem in a different thread

You suppose that e.g. this should be non-zero? Can you please post an snmpget output for this OID? Did you already try spine instead of cmd.php?

This value is "0" even in snmpget and it's normal. The matter is that for this value (an example):
07/08/2008 04:23:24 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] DEBUG: SQL Exec: "insert into poller_output (local_data_id, rrd_name, time, output) values (1525, 'vsxCountersAccepted', '2008-07-08 16:23:24', '10')"
07/08/2008 04:23:24 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[63] DS[1525] SNMP: v1: 192.168.0.90, dsname: vsxCountersAccepted, oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.16.23.1.1.7.4.0, output: 10
In Cacti, all the values which seems to be retrieved by the pooler are at value 0 (query graph)
2008/07/08 16:25:00 0 0 0 0
I'm not sure that the pooler is the problem... What do you think about that?

Your answer does not help, unfortunately. Please post result of

Code: Select all

snmpget -c <community> -v <version> <target> .1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.16.23.1.1.5.2.0
to learn what's going on

Sorry

The result of the request is:
C:\USR\bin>snmpget -c xxx -v 1 xxxx .1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.16.23.
1.1.5.2.0
SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.2620.1.16.23.1.1.5.2.0 = STRING: "0"

Thanks in advance

Well, that's exactly what the poller found out: The result is "0". What did you expect it to be in cacti, then?

It's Ok for this OID but for the OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.16.23.1.1.5.4.0 (other vsx) th result is SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.2620.1.16.23.1.1.5.4.0 = STRING: "10" and I have the value 0 in the data source...
I don't understand where is the problem...

But from an earlier post I see
07/08/2008 04:23:24 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[63] DS[1525] SNMP: v1: 192.168.0.90, dsname: vsxCounterPackets, oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2620.1.16.23.1.1.5.4.0, output: 10

so cacti got it correctly

Is it the storage in the rrd which may cause a problem? If it's not, I have no other idea. :-?
