Web site ping

Hello

i have cacti 0.8.6j ver and i want to monitor the response time for a particular website


like http://somewebsite is my source website whose i want to graph response time from my side ...

how do i add it as a device ? it says snmp error ? anyother method to check the availability of website ?

I'm not sure the latency will be a good indicator but to get it create a host as www.google.fr (check in your server with host that you can resolve this URL in an IP address) and then in the downed device detection select ping, and ICMP ping in the ping method.

For the SNMP version choose Not In Use.

but i dont have ping option available in 0.8.6j version .. what to do ?

For this version of cacti, please remove the snmp community string. Then, please add the Graph Template "PING" (or whatever it is called) and create the graph.
But I urge you to upgrade your cacti. There are multiple vulnerabilities in this old version

An upgrade will keep all database entries and all rrd files with the data in them

For the original question it is not necessary to upgrade. This was a side note only. Use the method described above to deactivate host availability checking if you only want to ping them. But make sure, that ping timeouts/retries are short or you will wait forever if one of those hosts fail
