Merging Nagios into Cacti?

Post by smatt »

Hello, I am running Cacti and Nagios in the same machine. They monitor the same machines in the network and sometimes even the same things (like CPU load, disk space). The main difference between Nagios and cacti is that Cacti draws wonderfull graphs on these ressources, while Nagios checks for availability and warns administrators by email. Why not merging that into one tool? Maybe with an import assistant to import the Nagios settings for hosts, groups, services etc. into Cacti?

Edit: Sorry, I just see, a few lines under my thread there is already that idea. http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=1843

But that thread is 5 years old.

I think Nagios is a great tool, but I don't see Cacti and Nagios "merging". We can work on integration, but merging probably not going to happen.

I may be out of place. I think most people including me are wanting a complete noc tool. I think the directions of the plugins show that also. Cacti is the most visual pleasing and I think easiest to navigate and configure. I love it as well as my customers. A big thank you to the devs and plugin writers.

I have been looking at pandora FMS I love what it does just not yet how it does it. It would be a dream to have that functionality in cacti. I know this is not what cacti is but, what I hope for.

From my side, I am very near a NOC product. I have Monitor, Manage, Thold, Syslog, Weathermap, Reports, and a whole host of other stuff - even IP Address Management.

Cacti has proven to be extremely flexible for what my company needs, and is widely respected by senior management. Need I say any more - apart from thanks to the devs, and plugin developers who have all made the fantastic product what it is today.
