Windows 2003 Service and Process monitoring and Alerting

Post by rlund »

Has anyone made any templates that monitor windows server 2003 device services and or processes?

I want to monitor both Services and processes on some of my 2003 servers, and I want a e-mail when they go down.

Thanks

Search this forum - BSOD2600 has posted templates to monitor Windows processes, and Cigamit has posted templates to monitor Windows services.

You may also want to take a look at the MANAGE plugin, as it leverages these templates for monitoring.

This is because you are not loading the required MIB when the poller starts. I'm not in the office at the moment, but if you search the forums for the Windows Services template, you will find a post from me that details the name of the MIB that needs to be loaded.

This took me a while to figure out - I have this working in my setup. Another way to get this working is to install plugin Manage 0.6 - this is able to detect service states using vbscript or perl as the poller, and will query the state of the service using WMI.

Hope this helps.

Is this something unique to each server, or are these mibs the same for every device?

if so, would it be something exportable?

Otherwise, I will look at the forum.

MIBS are the same for every device. The one you are looking for is SNMPv2-SMI.txt. Also ensure that the version of SNMP is set to 2.

Hmm - I suspect that the OID is possibly being truncated - there was a post a while back about this. See if you can find it - if not, come back here and let me know.

I will post the php script that the Windows Services template uses. Hopefully, this will help.
