[SOLVED] Timeout when collecting info for new graphs

Post by AndySTT »

I am attempting to add graphs for a large Netscreen Firewall which has a large number of VPN tunnels created. I have the correct templates working for this information to be collected and already have 50+ Firewalls many with VPNs being collected successfully.

When I attempt to add new graphs for this particular Firewall cluster it appears that the initial indexing of the tunnels is timing out before it is able to respond back to the browser. As recommended elsewhere I have increased the SNMP timeout for this device and extended the number of rows per page without noticable affect. I have also changed the Apache keepalive and restarted. The index of the standard physical interfaces on the same Firewalls indexs fine and collection of information against these is working so no obvious SNMP issue. The error I receive when this times out is ' The page cannot be displayed. There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed. '

Due to the importance of these Firewalls to our organisation I am very eager to get this to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you also increased the timeout and memory values in your php.ini config?

Fixed, these would appear to be the php.ini values that were causing the problem...

max_execution_time = 120 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds (was 30)
max_input_time = 120 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data (previously commented out)

Timeout querying devices across satellite connection

Post by siouxee »

I'm having similar problems querying a couple of Cisco 2950 switches and a 2811 router at a site with a 500-600ms latency satellite connection.

I bumped up the max_execution and max_input times in php.ini to 300 and still get a 500 Internal Server error.

I've also tried increasing the SNMP timeout to 1500-2000ms. I can query and graph the CPU, memory, and temperature stats without issue but not the interfaces.

Any other suggestions? Running on 0.8.6j (win32).

BTW, I get interface info when I query, but I get the following when I try to create actual graphs for the interfaces:

+ Created graph: BSP-REF-AR01 - Traffic - |query_ifName|
+ Created graph: BSP-REF-AR01 - Traffic - |query_ifName|

Something doesn't look right because the section where the |query_ifName| is usually has the actual name of the interface, right?

Also, if I go back into the device (after reloading the SNMP interface data query again) it appears as though no interface graphs were created because all interfaces are selectable again in the graph creation page.

And, running the query in debug / verbose mode times out as well (usually with a 500 Internal Server error)...
