New to Cacti/Monitor Server 2003.

Post by AStaley »

I'm new to both Linux and Cacti and am having a few problems getting things working.

I've followed an online guide and have Cacti up and running on Centos 4.6. The graph's for the local host are working without issue.

Want I want to setup is for Cacti to monitor/graph various Server 2003 machines. I want to monitor CPU Load/Mem Usage/Amount of users logged in etc, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Where I seem to be having problems is in which templates to use, how to install them and then how to set them up, are there any guide I can refer to?

Thanks in advance, AStaley.

Is the microsoft SNMP service installed on the windows 2003 boxes? Is the community string set properly and will it answer to SNMP calls from machines other than localhost?

These are the most common reasons for Windows SNMP failing

Yes the SNMP service is installed and the community address is set. What I'm not so sure on is how to install the various templates that people on these forums have developed.

Is it just a case of importing the templates and copying the XML files into the right directory within Cacti? Once I've done that, then what do I do to setup the devices correctly etc?

Thanks, AStaley.
