Sort of Working but with odd results

Did you import the 1.0 or newer 1.2 templates? Try the older...
Actually I didn't get any errors (at least not from Cacti WEB GUI) and none in the cacti.log or the webserver logs. The objects just didn't show up.

I'll give the older version a try.
BSOD2600 wrote:I used a CDEF to make the stack negative, this would've been imported if you used my templates.
Ah. I have an existing CDEF for that called "Make Stack Negative & Per 5 Min" which is like the one you described. I applied that to the graph and it now looks like this:

Image

As you can see the Negative Out portion now works but is drastically under proportion to the In values. Of course using an offsetting "Make Five Min" that multiplies CURRENT_DATA_SOURCE with 300 just brings it back to the previous state.

Could this be in the graph Min/Max values or perhaps the Scaling?

Data in the RRA seems to be right.
BSOD2600 wrote:What do you mean? I also made the graphs "per 5 minutes" instead of the default.
If you look at the Legend section you can see that there are no values in the Maximum column of the Legend. It has the text label but no values.

A fetch of MAX dumps the following:
[root@server rra]# rrdtool fetch switch_snmpinpkts_101.rrd MAX -s '03-04-2008'

So that tells me that there are MAX values in the RRA.

Thanks for the response! Any other hints?

Odd. You didn't even get the screen saying the templates were imported correct?
merana wrote:Ah. I have an existing CDEF for that called "Make Stack Negative & Per 5 Min" which is like the one you described.
Yea, same one I have. I forget if I made that (which means some of the template got imported correctly) or if that comes with Cacti by default.
merana wrote:Could this be in the graph Min/Max values or perhaps the Scaling?
Hmm, I don't think so. I've attached my combined protocol page which is properly displaying the negative values. It's graph template is the same parameters as the one you posted.

merana wrote:If you look at the Legend section you can see that there are no values in the Maximum column of the Legend. It has the text label but no values.
Several options.
1) make the graphs wider
2) make the font size smaller
3) make the text shorter (i.e. maximum: -> max:).

Yep no visible errors. I still haven't had the chance to try importing the V1 templates yet as I am a bit worried if they will munge the ones that are there now...

I think that this CDEF came in when I brought in the Barracuda templates (which also need some work as well...)
BSOD2600 wrote:Hmm, I don't think so. I've attached my combined protocol page which is properly displaying the negative values. It's graph template is the same parameters as the one you posted.
I've got one graph that is showing the negative numbers but there are some huge gaps between the Ins and Outs that perhaps it can't be properly graphed because the vertical axis can support such a large difference in values between the positive and negative.

Image

Graph01 shows stats from a 6503 switch and the ipInReceives is showing a 134k Avg where as the ipOutRequests is only 673.07. Maybe this gap and the scale in combination with the graph total height is too large to be represented...

Image

Graph02 using the same template with a smaller variance between ipInReceives and ipOutRequests actually does show a very thin ipOutRequests area in the negative.

This actually has me wondering about the actual values being returned by the SNMP query. I suspect that these values are only showing numbers based on what is seen from a certain VLAN (maybe 1 - Cisco Default) while the other VLANs are not represented. The reason I say this is that on one of the other edge switches there is a HUGE spike and a much higher set of average numbers and all of that traffic trunks back to the core switches represented by Graph01 and Graph02.

Image

Graph03 shows this spike and the values for that edge switch. I need to dig a bit to find out more.

I took the make it wider option but will trim it down some as it seems too wide now.

Thanks for all of the help on this. I'll continue to post what I find out about the relationship of the MIBs to the VLANs as I find out more.

-Changelog-

2.0 - Rewrite of the scripts ditching the Script server for pure/fast SNMP Data Query. Delete the ss_protocol* scripts from your \cacti\scripts\ folder. Delete the various *protocol statistics Data Input Methods. The Data templates remain the same, so you should be able to continue to use the 1.x graph/data sources post-upgrade.

Thanks for the great set of template / script!

I did exactly as you suggested but I get error messages about unmet dependancy:

Hmm, odd.

valleed, delete the data query, graph templates and data templates for the RFC1213 stuff. Then try importing again.

I got the same problem as valleed.

Deleting the data query, graph templates and data templates and re-importing them did not help.

Hmm you're both right. Looks like some sort of exporting bug with Cacti... Will have to investigate further.

Great. I'll update the main post with the new template.

Seems there is a bug in cacti were copying existing templates, doesn't create new hash values for things.

Not sure if it's intentional or not, but it seems that the 'combined protocol statistics' graph did not get the 'per 5 minutes' treatment that the others did..

Otherwise, nice work!

You're right. I figured those traffic counters made more sense in their default form of per second, instead of per 5-min for those other tcp/ip/udp/snmp statistics. Wouldn't be hard to change it over in case someone wanted to....

BSOD2600, I downloaded the templates from the repository. Currently, we're using the script based stuff, so I'd like to upgrade.
But this is _NOT_ possible, because we're going from a "simple graph template" to a data query based approach.
Even if I did not research fully, I'm quite sure an upgrade will fail when only re-importing the templates. To be honest, I did not manage to upgrade 'til now and I consider myself being quite used to cacti.
If anyone manages to do it, please feel free to post. I will try to investigate more and come back with a solution, if possible.
Nevertheless, I greatly appreciate the re-write to pure SNMP, it's way faster
