One Graph with Multiple OIDs from different Hosts

Post by zebo51 »

We have temperature monitoring devices in our data centers in each office. Right now I have a graph for each location. I would like to combine all these onto one graph, have different line colors and a legend stating which line color is what. Having a min/avg/max info for each would be nice too, but I don't know how cluttered or messy that may all get. Also the value I get from the OID is deg C and I would like deg F. I see there is a CDEF for the conversion but I am not sure how to apply it either.

I have tried to follow this how to: http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=8415 with no luck.

Just getting started with Cacti, so please be as step specific as you can with any directions or help in setting this up.

Thanks

Let's tackle the C->F conversion first. You will want to apply the CDEF to all Graph Items of the graph (LINE,AREA,STACK,GRPINT).
The aggregation issue is solved by using AGGREGATE plugin

I already have area graphs for each of my locations using SNMP - Generic OID template. Looking under devices, data sources, graph management I don't see how to apply the CDEF to my exiting graphs. Do I need to create new ones in a different way to apply the CDEF?

Thanks

The CDEF would be applied to the Graph Template for those graphs

So right now they are using the defualt SNMP - Generic OID. If I don't want to affect that one, I need to create a new template to apply it too?

Will I need a new template for each one so they will have different colors?

Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, I just made a duplicate of it, then went into graph item #1 and set the CDEF to C to F, then set my devices to use that template.

Now I will check out the plugin you mentioned above.

I think I got the aggregate plugin working, I see my data sources all in one graph. It seems though that the legends are showing my temps in C. The graph lines are correct showing F values. How do I get the legends to conver too? It does this on the single device graphs and the aggregate one. So I am guessing if I get it fixed on each device graph, the aggregate one will be correct.

Thanks

Please apply the CDEF to the LEGENDs of each Graph prior to aggregation. Verify it works fine, then aggregate.

Great, that worked.

One thing I noticed is when I make a change to my graph template, the items in the aggregate get all our of order. I then have to use the arrows to get them arranged again, but what a PITA. Is this a bug or why does it happen?

Thanks

At least it is not a planned feature. And I would not insist in ongoing support for it.
So I suppose it's time again for some debugging, sigh
