*sql support

Post by frozt01100101 »

After a bit of reading through the forums, I saw that there have been a few particular cases where people have requested support for another database backend beyond just MySQL. I have also read that the support is planned for 0.9.x. I have a question regarding the current design and implementation (which some people more familiar with the code should be able to answer): 1) what are the design issues which prevent other SQL backends from being implement, and 2) how difficult would it be to abstract the SQL "engine" (all Cacti internals calling upon this engine, which in turn will perform the correct SQL actions per SQL format)

It's more spine than it is anything else. It leverages the mysql api directly instead of indirectly using LIBDBI.

There are also a few other compatibilities. I will re-investigate the issue shortly. We have received a contribution some time ago that claimed Postgres support. That's what I will look to.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
