[SOLVED] Graph dropping outbound data

Hi all,

I've been using cacti for some time now, and pretty familiar with it by now. However, I'm hoping someone could help me with a problem I'm running into with a few hosts.

What happens is that sometimes (more often than not during periods of high outbound traffic), the graph loses outbound traffic data. It continues to graph the inbound and I can sit at the poller machine and use ifstat to query the remote snmp without any problems, so I doubt it to be the network or network congestion. I was running 0.8.6j with the PHP poller before, and as part of my attempt to debug, I've upgraded to 0.8.7b with the Spine poller. That didn't seem to help. Below is an example of what the graphs look like sometimes. Yes, graph 2 has a reboot in there, look to the right of it for the part I'm referencing.


The cacti log file shows nothing out of the ordinary (set to Low). I've also tried increasing the maximum limit on the datasource, to no avail either. I've tried setting the cron/poll frequency at both 5m and 1m, no difference.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this? I'm lost for ideas at this point. Thanks in advance.

Either the rrdfiles have their max data point too low, or you need to poll using 64bit counters and snmpv2 or snmpv3. However, before you do that, you must verify that your devices support 64bit counters.

Net-SNMP v5.2++ support them be default. If you device does not support the 64bit counters, you will need to increase your polling rate to 1 minute or so for these data sources.

I've increased the max limit on the datasource by double (now 200000000, it's a 100mbit interface), and also cut it over to 64bit counters. Neither appears to have helped. Anything else I should attempt? Is there something in the logs that should tip off?

Changing the MAX of a data template currently has NO effect on existing rrd file. Please use rrdtool tune in conjunction.

Thank you, I wasn't aware you needed to tune them if they already existed. This has solved the issues so far, though I'm not sure why the defaults didn't suffice for me.
