Totals / History for Billing Purposes

Post by Boostable »

Hello Everyone,

This being my first post let me go ahead and say this is a "FANTASTIC" product. Expect some support from me very soon..

Now on to my question. I have been using MRTG for a long time now and have seperate scripts setup to do 95th and total. I moved to rrd and now cacti to have better control of the data (ie spikes, etc).

I know that cacti/rrd can do the 95th and the totals, however Im looking for something a little more functional from the totals for my purpose. I need a static and running breaddown for total bw used on a monthly basis for billing purposes.

The script im using now works with rrd backend and I will run it seperately if need be, but figured I would ask to see if im just over looking an option somewhere.

I have read losts of posts on this issue and I think alot of individuals are looking for the same thing. I know that cactistoric can do zoom etc.. but that becomes an issue of having to do that everymonth for every port, etc..

Here is a link to what im using now.. very clean, and effective. I would like to integrate this into cacti if possibly, maybe under each port or something..

Or if this is already being done please point me in the right direction..

And yes.. I know some of the links are not working.. but you will get the idea...

Thanks,

JW

I also wanted to take a look to that page, but it still asks user name/pass.
Can you post here just the graphs?

Ok.. .here is the monthy chart. Gives total by month at a glimpse.

Then if you click on the month itself it will give you a break down by day.

Hope that helps. It works very well and I will continue to use it if necessary.

Yes - not doing it now but this will be add a great extra value.

I also like to see at the end of a month the consumed bandwidth statistic for my ISP links.

Perhaps some of the scripters or programmers can do this ?

It's not exactly 100 % accurate, but the information that you are looking for is already contained in the standard cacti graphs. Look at the monthly graph for an interface and find the traffic average on the chart. I believe that this is the average over the entire month. All you have to do is multiply the average by the number of seconds in the month and you will have the totaly number of bits transferred, in and out, over the month.

Yea, what is displayed on the current craphs would only pertain to the current days being view, and of course an average for billing purposes would not be a good idea.

Im gonna work on integrating this (at least in a basic form) to cacti this weekend. I will post my results.. if any..

How's it coming, Boostable ? I'm looking for something similar. If not, can you tell me how you got those other graphs to work ? That doesn't look like cacti to me.
