sqlServer database instead of rrdtool for cacti?

Post by seb51 »

is it possible to use SQLServer like database for cacti instead of RRDTool?
because i use cacti, big brother and compaq insight manager 7 on the same server (on win2K server) to manage several several servers and routers on several networks. so, i want to use an unique database for these three network management software : SQLServer.
if someone knows anything about this possibility, thanks!!

Well since the graphing functionality is part of RRDTool, I'm pretty sure that's not possible. At least as part of this project.

Doesn't RRDTOOL store stuff in a MYSQl db anyway?

no... rrdtool itself is a file-based "database"

read http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webto ... nners.html
for more infos about "what is rrdtool / what contains a .rrd-database"

Cacti uses mysql only for the structure (datainputs, graphtemplates, etc.)

nope, the rrd files in your rra directory hold the values measured from the devices
