gandalf,

Can't wait to see the new and improved version. It would be nice to have this incorporated as a plugin. I wrote something to clean this up before I knew rrdcleaner existed, but I'd rather have a plugin for it...

Well, the last SVN version is fully functional. Only the PIA2.0 issues are missing. So I may provide a 064beta, if you like. But run it on test systems only, then

Hi Reinhard.

First, sorry for my English.

I really need the rrdcleaner plugin... I have about 40 machines (alteon and f5 loadbalancers), changing daily of configurations and I really do need to delete rrd and data sources from a controller way.

I have cacti 0.8.7b and I have installed PIA 2.0, but with your last svn rrdcleaner plugin (0.35, or rev. 1.81) I can't see nothing. Am I making some mistake?

Can you help me?

Strange. I've got 0.34 on my 087b production system without problems. It's not the latest version, so I won't really USE it (the new version tackles some more tables, that's really required), but only confirm it's working. Any errors in cacti.log or httpd's error_log?

Nothing more required.
For debugging, pleae make sure, that your httpd userid (www-data, apache or the like) has write access to cacti.log. Else, no debugging otput will be written to the log file.

RRDCleaner 035 only supports 087(b) with PIA 2.0 and up.
Support for lower cacti versions will not be provided.
I will now discontinue this thread and open a new one.

hello, I am using rrdcleaner 0.35 on cacti 0.8.7b, pia 2.0. But I having problem in deleting the rrds. I select the rrd and click delete, but the files actually still stay there. and it's not showing me any error or something else indicating the failure of deletion=(. But I did delete a few files "by chance". I saying "by chance" is because I did the same operation just as my other tries. but this time(and only this time) the total file number did decrease and in cacti log it showed me the successfully deletion...

can anyone help with my odd case??

thanks

I've just installed the RRD cleaner plugin from the SVN... and my rrd files are not being deleted.

I'm running the boost poller as root, and have made sure the RRA folder and files are RW and owned by the web process...

When I click on the RRD cleaner link, it brings up a list of RRD's that need to be deleted.... 19877... when I select some and delete them it the number decrements, but then when I click back on the link it goes back to 19877.

Do I have too many RRD files for it to work correctly? How do I get it to work?

Once you click on delete, you have to wait one poller cycle for them to actually be deleted before you go back to the RRDClean page, otherwise it clears the delete flag. I would select them all to be deleted, then wait. Once you have had a poller cycle run, check your Cacti log. It will tell you when they have been deleted.

I did exactly that (after digging through the documentation)... the list of rra's to delete just stays in the plugin_rrdclean table, and when selected to delete, it copies the ones listed to delete into the plugin_rrdclean_action table.

Now, when I wait several poller cycles, including the bost poller cycle, the list of items rrdclead_action stay in there and the rra files never get deleted. Nothing shows up in the cacti log as being deleted, so something isn't working correctly.

I have the same problem as dononeil. The records move to the proper "action" table, but never get executed.

Running:
Directory: rrdclean
Version: 0.36
also running Boost 2.0 and Spine (have been running boost 2.0 SVN since I installed rrdclean .36).

To note, this did work at one time, but I've often wondered if the 87K+ rrd files are exceeding the limited of this package when it comes time to delete. Can anyone help me with debugging? I'd like to know how the hooks into the poller actually work (where it is invoked, etc) to see what it is really doing/not doing.
