Logical Interfaces

Post by golemb »

Hello;

How do I go about graphing logical interfaces on my network? ie some of my Cisco routers have ten logical interfaces assigned to one physical interface.

Thanks

hmm
If the logical interfaces aren't shown as "normal" interfaces:

1. get the mib for your device
2. take a mib-browser and
3. search the values for your logical links.
4. create templates (its the best if you create "generic" templates)
5. share templates for the next having the same problem.. (addons-forum)

BTW: a good (and free) mib-browser is mbrowse (GTK+, Linux, uses NET-/UCD-SNMP-libs)
http://www.kill-9.org/mbrowse/

Sometimes its easier to get the mibs from mibdepot
http://www.mibdepot.com/cgi-bin/downloads.cgi

Good luck...

logical interface is interface in snmp and it have ifindex so you can graphe it like any other interface but keep in mind that in some platforms the counters are not accurate for sub interfaces

Moonman, do you have any references on that? I'm tracking a ton of sub interfaces.

For ciscos logical subinterfaces were not present in MIB in some older IOS versions (don't remember which ones). You may consider IOS upgrade if existing version is old.
