[SOLVED] generate alarm when cacti not able to poll a device

How can I generate an alarm via email or syslog where cacti is not able to poll a device?

The threshold plugin can do this for you, if you have the plugin architecture installed.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

I do use thold for threshold monitoring. However, I dont know how to set it for a device which is down. Can you help?

Sure. Go to Settings..Alerting/THold, and enable Dead Hosts Notification. Fill in an e-mail address in the box provided.

if enabling dead host notification is checked, would the error also write to the syslog as well as emailing? I would rather have it write to the syslog
