can't add user - "Error: Username change not permitted&

Post by m1z4rk »

Hi All -

After upgradeing from 0.8.6 to 0.8.7, and subsequently 0.8.7a (on RedHat AS3, using the Dag RPM), i can no longer add users. All other functionality is ok.

I'm logged in as admin, can do everything else, but upon adding a user:
"Error: Username change not permitted for designated template or guest user." I've attached a screenshot of the error.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Check the settings and set your Guest and Template users to "No User". See what it does.

Got the same error...running 0.8.7a (no patches). Changed the user templates to "no user" as Rony suggested above with same result.

Then trying different combinations of parameters (BTW, auth always set to "local"), and a limited set of realm permissions, I left out the user's email address and selected all realm permissions...that did the trick.

Now in an attempt determine the root cause, I can't duplicate the problem. I've successfuly added about eight users and no combination of changed parameters produces any errors. A little spooky, but I'll keep an eye out for similar.

Still no luck

Thanks for the tip. Tried lots of combinations of realm permissions, account options, etc, with no success. still getting the same error.

Noflies - in what field did you leave off the user's email address? User Name / Full Name?

Thanks,
mark

m1z4rk...I thought it was "email address" that I left off. (maybe thats related to the PIA)

And to answer Rony's question; I am (and was using 0.8.7, no patches with PIA 1.4, thold, superlinks, hostinfo, tools, update).

I'm traveling at the moment and don't have access to that system, but I can post my hostinfo data by late Monday)

Sorry I can't help more at the moment.

Hi All -

FYI we're able to create users if we set the User Template to an existing user rather than "No User". Then we just need to tweak the permissions, etc.

Possible that user template "No User" got modified during the upgrade?

thanks,
mark

Please email me a copy of you database....

Or if that is to much, a dump of you auth_users and settings table.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've sent you an email with my DB dump. Let me know if you need anything else to track this down.

cacti-0.8.7
plugin-1.2
graph_create_xml_warning.patch
sec_sql_injection-0.8.7.patch

Thanks,
Roman

I'm seeing the same without the Plugin Arch. If there is any information that will help diagnose the problem, let me know and I'll provide it.

Did you send me your database?

I have yet to inspect the one that was sent to me.

EDIT.
need go to "Settings" - "Authentication". Set for [Guest User] and [User Template] any value, not "Not User".
Save.
Now set for [Guest User] and [User Template] value = "Not User".
Save.

create user withous error.
the problem = in table "settings" default value for [user_template] and [guest_user] is NULL.
