First, let me state I've just started running cacti/rrdtool, so please bear with me.
Okay, first question:
I just want to verify that the "Load Average" graph is actually adding the values on top of each other. So, if my 1, 5, and 15 minute current averages are .1, .2, and .3, the top point would be .6. Correct?
2nd question:
Has anyone added average and max to the "Load Average" graph similar to the way the "Disk Space" or "Traffic" graphs work? If so, would you mind sharing or pointing me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Youre correct in thinking that the 'stack' of this data misrepresents it. There are a few occasions in cacti where the defaults do not do justice to the actual data. Simply changing the 5 and 15 min data displays from 'stack' to 'line1' or 'line2' in the graph template will take care of the issue, you can play with lines/colors from there to get the look right.
In the template area, if you go to 'add' in template items, pick the appropriate data source and add set item type to 'gprint' and consolidation function to 'max', and then add something descriptive in 'Text Format' like '15min Max:' you will see it show up on the graph legend. Playing with item order and the 'hard return' function will let you put them on the appropriate lines. HTH!

Excellent!
Thanks so much! I changed the "load average" to a line chart and added the average and max.
I really appreciate the help.

Here's the fix.
There's a bug in the program which randomly resets the values for the 5 and 15 minute data sources.
Go to Graph Management - Load Average and make sure the 5 and 15 minute data sources are pointing to the 5 and 15 minute load averages. Mine were all being reset to 1 minute load average.
Hope that helps.
There's a patch for this at http://www.raxnet.net/board/viewtopic.p ... h+template but I haven't verified it fixed my problem.
