cacti web site not responding

Post by cricrou »

Hi there,

I'm using cacti (0.8.7a) on Gentoo for months now, and sometimes I ran into trouble regarding the web site, and only the web site.

Actually, my browser keep on waiting data from cacti URL.

To get it back on work I have to restart my apache web server. Neithertheless, other URL hosted by the same apache web server keeps on working well even if cacti stops responding.

Nothing to deal with in apache error log, and cacti log don't relate any problem.

Apache web server version 2.2.6-r7.

Any idea ?

Whan does this happen? Before being prompted for login? Or after?

Sometimes when my browser refresh (already logged in), sometimes after login.

Today, my browser try a refresh and hangs on waiting data, I restart my browser, get login prompt, got some graphs and then hangs again.

I restart once again my browser, and don't even get the login prompt.

Other URLs are still available and functional. Then I restart my apache web server and all came back.

Is it relevant to say that I recently add the plugin haloe ?

Please try to deactivate plugins one by one. Which browser do you use?

I too am experiencing this problem with version 0.8.7a. I am running Fedora Core 8 with Apache 2.2.6. When I leave the graphs idle, it will auto refresh and timeout. When clicking on other things on the main console, it will also take awhile to load then time out.

I just identify a new issue in access_log of apache2.

When the web site is hung, I get this :

Code: Select all

/cacti HTTP/1.1" 301 298
When the web site is OK, I get this :

Code: Select all

/cacti/ HTTP/1.1" 200 1463
I didn't find any article in google related to such codes ? Maybe you got any idea ?

Please notice the mssing "/" slash in the first log snippet. Where is cacti installed and waht's the setting of DocumentRoot in your httpd configuration?

The missing "/" is due to the URL I setup in my bookmark. Previously I point to "http://server/cacti", and to avoid any path problem I reconfigured it to "http://server/cacti/index.php".

Stripping back the "/index.php" in my bookmark, I get those logs :

Code: Select all

55.87.3.36 - - [23/Jan/2008:13:35:27 +0100] "GET /cacti HTTP/1.1" 301 298
55.87.3.36 - - [23/Jan/2008:13:35:27 +0100] "GET /cacti/ HTTP/1.1" 200 1463
Cacti is installed in "/var/www/localhost/htdocs/cacti", and my documentroot is "/var/www/localhost/htdocs" in the "default_vhost.include"

You may want to ggogle for "+http +error +301" to find e.g. http://www.checkupdown.com/status/E301.html

Just an update on the topic, I currently experience once again a timeout on cacti URL.

But as I look for error in apache access log, there are none (not even an access with 301 error) !!

It looks like my browser doesn't request for pages. But as soon as I stop the request and claim for another URL it works like a charm ?? And the apache access log retrieve the other URL access ????

Really, I'm lost !

Hi

can you try to clear your browser cache, and even try with another one (Opera, Konqueror) ?

In fact there's nothing else to do but waiting for a while.

I try with firefox (hung) and in the meantime with IExplore (hung). I could try with Opera and other, but I guess the result will be the same.

Can I activate some sorts of debug tools in Cacti (except the poller) ?

Another update, I just installed another cacti, and same thing happens.

Once again cacti 0.8.7a, php 5.2.5, rrdtool 1.2.23, snmp 5.4.1.

Maybe I can try to reverse 1 of my cacti back to 0.8.6j, is it safe ?
