script + templates tutorial?

Hi,

I'm new to Cacti. I installed the latest version and everything is working perfectly. I spent some time to understand all Cacti features and now I'm ready to go next step: creating my own graphics, based on my needs.

There are 3 type of templates in Cacti: Data Templates, Graph Templates and Host Templates. I already built a test script that pulls all needed data, when tested into terminal.

What I need to understand is: When do I use the template names listed above? Is there a tutorial that explains (with examples) when I should use a specific template? I looked at the Cacti docs and there is not much info available on how to properly built a new set of templates.
