[SOLVED] Host IP address changed

Post by johara »

We recently relocated our Linux based system to a new subnet. Thus it required a new ip address, what is the proper manner to change the ip address that Cacti answers to? Unfortunately the person that set our Cacti system up originally is no longer here and I am by far no Linux expert, so being as specific as possible would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm assuming you're talking about the host name as devices don't connect to cacti, cacti connects to them, so it's IP is irrelevant. You'll need to find your DNS server and change the IP address bound to the host name you're using for cacti.

In the meantime you should be able to browse to the new IP of your server to get to cacti ie: http://192.168.1.250/cacti/

Thanks for the reply. We don't actually have a DNS name associated with the system, we have always used the ip address. When I attempt to browse to http://192.168.23.37/cacti/ I get no response, even when attempting locally from the Linux system. I have added a virtual interface on the Linux system with the old address, when I browse to http://172.16.128.129/cacti/ locally from the Linux system I get a response however this address is not routed on our new network, something we would rather not do, so I am unable to access Cacti from any system other than the Linux system it is running on, this also prevents Cacti from polling other devices as it is attempting to use the 172.16.128.129 address to do so.

Solved it. I had reset the network interface with no success, so I restarted the server and now everything seems to be working.
Thanks
