Graphing - more than 1 Year

Post by jeffsan »

Could anyone tell me whether the rrd graphs can be extended to 3 years? And if so how?

Take a look at the Cactistoric discussion in the addons forum. I think the thread is called "cool new zoom history feature" or something like that. You may also want to look at the Bonsai thread. I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks like a cool idea (and it was written in Luxembourg which makes me happy :) )

Thanks for the advise. I actually installed Bonzai and I have to admit it is pretty slick. However, it is the inverse of what I am trying to do. Could someone please provide me with the RRA settings for a 3 year chart? The documentation didn't really touch on the different parameters like steps, rows, timespan.

set your yearly (1day average) rra to 1100 rows. Each row is equivelant to one days data, thus the 1 day average.... If you already have old data in your RRDs you can use rrdtool to resize them (see the rrdtool manpages on the rrdtool website) and keep your historical data. If not, then simply change the size in cacti and create your datasources.

If you want to be able to view back in time try cactistoric. The interface isn't as slick as Bonzai's but it will do what you want.

Thanks, I found a good article by Rax and kind of decipher the metrics. I've created a graph for 2 years (1 month average) using:

X-File 0.5
Steps: 8928
Rows: 1100
Timespan: 66960000

Anything longer than that looks cluttered.
