structured rrd paths -> performance

Post by oxo-oxo »

OK ok, I know it's on the roadmap
- someone wants nice directories.

Most users would want it so they can cd down the structure and not see thousands of graphs in the root of rrd structure.

However, in the 2 Cacti European meeting, we stumbled on something that we don't want to forget.

Structured RRD paths gives performance boost...

Given X number of pollers:
- each poller is assigned a subdirectory.
- each directory is optimised in connection with disk I/O: for example own disk.
- each directory can _optionally_ have a directory structure so that there aren't hundreds of rrd's in the root of it's structure

I know NOTHING about disk I/O (this is probably a lie)
- however disk I/0 get's to be an issue on some of the large Cacti sites.

For those wondering, I'm still here, but lost in the shadows. Yearning for less bugs. Who want's a Cacti 1.3/2.0? Streams anyone?
