Giving back to the community

Post by Tybio »

As Howie knows, I've been a quiet user of Weathermap for a number of years to map a major international ISP. In doing so, I've written a number of scripts to automate tasks...I'm going to try to clean them up and post some of them (The non-proprietary ones) here for other people to use as reference.

I'm going to reserve two posts in this thread for the two I know I'm going to release right now. I will edit them with information on the scripts when I clean them up enough for public consumption.

I do not pretend to be an SQL god, I learned it enough to get these jobs done. If you see a way to clean up the SQL I'd love to give it a try :).

make_site.pl

This script was created to map MPLS LSP information, it uses the MPLS LSP name on Juniper routers to build the associations and then gives the proper RRD for input and output when both are available. When only one is functional it uses that for both (best I could come up with!).

This script will NOT work for you, this is not provided to accomplish anything other then show people how weathermaps can be generated dynamically from the Cacti Database. Please do not expect this to drop into your install and do anything at all other then error out massively.

If you use this script, or have other ways to accomplish the tasks with more ease..please share!

(OK - figured out who you are now :-) )

Cool! I've got a couple of similar scripts to post soon too. I've been working on extra-high-density weathermaps for networks of switches in the DC.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Since 2007, there are now polar coordinates in Weathermap as an option, so this type of map is a lot simpler to do :-)
