monthly graph with 5 minute average

Post by ghosttowns »

I have seen other posts pertaining to this but they mainly say if you know how to manipulate .... which I dont - so here is the question.

I want to use cacti to monitor my servers monthly traffic. My Isp bills me monthly using a monthly 5 minute average and the 95th percentile. As it stands, Cacti gives a monthly graph with a 2 hour average which always winds up being less traffic then the 5 minute average.

So how do I make cacti collect data such that it will give me a monthly 5 minute average rather then a monthly 2 hr average? Thanks

In theory, you should be able to graph data for entire month for a 5 minute average by doing this:

Go to "Round Robin Archives" in cacti, and select "Monthly (2 Hour Average)"

Change "Steps" to 1 and "Rows" to 18600.

You will have to re-create any data sources to make use of this new resolution.

If I were to change the steps and rows of an rra file, does that mean I would need to create a new rrd file?

Also, does the crontab and rrd steps need to be similar in order for the data to be collected properly?

TIA,
