Looking for install Debian Apache help

Post by bazagee »

Hi all,

Newbie I am to the Darkside (Linux) - Ooh, that's worth a flame :D
Actually, I'm very interested in getting some Network traffic and server graphing going for reporting etc. and its about time I set sail on the Linux ocean. But I need someone to guide me if possible. <end preamble>

Using dselect I installed cacti, mysql PHP4 etc and dependences on a Debian Distro. When I surf to the cacti folder via the web browser I get prompted to save a file from Apache. If I open the file (after saving it, its called cacti) it's the copyright page written by Ian Berry plus a small amount of script.

So, am I right in thinking that I have some sort of a/ permissions problem with apache (I did use to get a "not autherized to view this page" Don't know why that's changed as I haven't make any changed to the server), or b/ PHP4 is somehow not working.

Thanks for any baby-sitting anyone can offer this newbie.

Thanks for the reply - could you be more specific as to the path to this file? I'm assuming that apache2 is verison number of apache? I think the Debian Distro in stalls the older version? Anyway that file isn't in > /etc/apache.

Thanks for anymore info.
