Watchguard X55e not behaving

Post by mbeals »

I am attempting to get cacti to monitor a watchguard X55e firewall, which is supposed to support SNMP. I have enabled SNMP according to the documentation, but still continue to get SNMP error when I try to connect. I have done this both from the WAN side, forwarding port 161 to the trusted interface as well as on the trusted LAN side.

Here are the instructions provided by watchguard:

http://www.watchguard.com/support/faqs/ ... t_snmp.htm

The thing that catches my eye in them is that it refers to port 161 being a TCP port, when (as I understand it) cacti looks for it as a UDP port. I attempted to force cacti to run it as TCP by adding 'tcp:' to the front of the hostname, but that only served to crash cacti.

I also read a post that I found by searching that mentioned having to make a custom template, as the mib's used by the watchguard aren't in any current templates, which is causing the SNMP error. The MIB's are listed at the end of that documentation....but I can find very little info on how to take that MIB and put it in a form that cacti likes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Watchguard SNMP

The trick to this one is to put an IP on the unused optional network. Next disable the snmp/submitt and the reenable it. Took me a few hours on my own but watchguar wants $200 to reup my support on a $600 device.
