Difference between Graph and show interface on HP Procurve

Post by godrum »

Hello,

I use cacti to monitor some HP Procurve 3500 switches. Therefore I use the CISCO-Router template. Everything works fine, but when I compared the bandwidth from the "show interface command" in the CLI of a switch with the bandwidth displayed below the graph from Cacti I noted a difference.

"show interface command" about 5 MBit/s
"graph from cacti" about 200 KBit/s

Is there anything known or do I get something wrong.

Please pay attention to the timespan of those different readings. For a "Daily Graph", cacti measurements refer to an interval of 300 sec. That is, at time 0 and at time 300 the byte count is taken, the difference is computed and converted from Bytes to Bits. Peaks are averaged out by this procedure.
