Problems with Web Editor

Post by turlockaviator »

Running into problems with the web editor. Won't allow me to add nodes (I click on Add Node, get the cross hairs, click on position on map I want to place the node, the page seems to refresh, and then nothing - the node isn't added). Also, attempted changes such as Map Properties - select Background Image Filename have no affect. Can't delete or move nodes either. It's as if I can't do anything. Any ideas? I'm guessing perhaps a permissions issue on my map config files? Right now, they're both owned by the user that is running Cacti (in my case Cacti user). When making changes in the web editor, I'm wondering who is editing the file? The username my Apache process is running under?

Thanks in advance to everyone for the help...

Yes - config files need to be writable by your apache user for the editor to work. They don't actually need to be writeble by the poller ever, only readable.

Then again, it's not a bad idea to take away that permission once you are done editing, because anyone who can guess your config filenames can edit them otherwise.

You should have seen a 'read-only' note next to the filenames in the editor file-picker. Did that not show up for you?
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

Thanks Howie. You are the man. This is in fact a good way to keep lurkers from editing your config files...

Sorry, didn't read through your entire message. Not sure on the Read Only message. Hmm, let me change the ownership of one of my config files back and see if it does in fact show up...

Not seeing Read Only show up when I go to select a map to edit. Here is the output of my configs directory:

sbtnetmonitor:/srv/www/htdocs/cacti/plugins/weathermap/configs # ls -l
total 9
drwxr-xr-x 2 wwwrun root 112 Sep 13 16:33 .
drwxr-xr-x 8 cactiuser root 1064 Sep 11 17:16 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 wwwrun root 2592 Sep 17 16:45 internet.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 cactiuser root 1278 Jun 5 16:36 simple.conf
sbtnetmonitor:/srv/www/htdocs/cacti/plugins/weathermap/configs #

However, the attached pdf document shows what I see when I select simple.conf in the web editor

Ah, my mistake. It's in 0.93 (coming soon):

Code: Select all

ADDED - warning in editor file-selector so you can tell if the file is read-only
I've been using some of this 0.93 stuff since May, so sometimes I forget what's released and what isn't
