Relatively new to Cacti and NW. Using both products in an enterprise environment (County Government), and they are great. NW is installed as a Cacti Plugin.
Question regarding the web editor (or doing it by hand will work, although I have little experience using this method). Is it possible to add items to the maps that aren't necessarily supported by some sort of data collection? For example, I have some devices in my network that I don't have SNMP access to and cannot collect data from. However, I'd still like to show them conceptually and display lines to indicate what they are connected to. However, on these connection lines, I don't want to display percentages because there isn't any data to support this.
Also, is there any way to add text boxes to the maps to add additional supporting information?
I hope my question is clear. Obviously, I'm new to the Network Weathermap product.
Thanks in Advance!!!!

Sure. Both of those are just nodes
Create a node for the 'passive' device, and links to it. Just don't set a TARGET. You will need to add a BWLABEL none to the LINK section for those links to hide the 0% labels. You will end up with grey links for those links, unless you mess around a bit.
As for the extra text, you can add a node and set it's label to be the text. You can use additional fonts for it if you like. It gets to be a pain for lots of lines of text though. In that situation, you might want to make a PNG of the text, and then create one node where the icon is your text-picture.
I tried to make it so that weathermap is pretty flexible - nothing in there really forces you to show bandwidth.

Code: Select all
LINK aasdsd-asdssd
NODES passive1 realnode2
BWLABEL none

Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)
