Printer not getting detected
We have to monitor Printers and a desktop using ICMP. For some reason it says status unknown, do anyone know how to fix it.
Does the device respond to snmp and/or pings?
Have you added anything for the device in cacti?

Cacti Cant Ping the Device.
Cacti Cant SNMP/Ping the Printer and the Packeteer, However the server can ping the device. Also we cannot deploy SNMP on the printer this will leave us the only option of ICMP(Ping).
umm, so if you're not going to enable SNMP on the printer, what exactly are you going to monitor -- the network response time? If thats the case, clear the SNMP community name and cacti will always consider the device up.

We have installed threshld, and it has an option for monitoring the device status (UP, DOWN, UNKOWN). I can also see that Cacti has an option for SNMP and PING to detect if the device is up or down.
What we are trying to do is as well as graph some devices, we want to monitor if the devices or UP or DOWN. But the printers and some other devices do not support SNMP.
Does Cacti have an option to monitor the status of the device by ICMP PING? As we do not have a *NIX box, and would like to avoid installing Nagios.
Thanks.

I think you have to check your installed drivers.May be this is it's problem.
Or you have to check default settings of your printer.
