Linux-weblogic Swap space usage problem

Post by hcl_rahul »

My web Application is creating images from the bitmap(RGB) obtained from Flash, in a browser window.
We are using java JAI api to generate the images in Weblogic - Linux environment.
In one batch 2000 images(.5MB each) gets generated within a span of 10-12 hrs.

The concern is of memory usage.I am using 1 GB RAM with 2GB swap space in linux.
After creating 200+ image free RAM available is 16-22MB and then used swap space started increasing
and goes upto 1GB+ (1220-1500MB).
Once the batch gets completed and all objects gets released from context, free RAM available goes upto 500MB but
the used swap space(1GB+) never come down.
Even on undeploying the application from weblogic , swap space was not recovered.
The only way to recover swap is to restart Weblogic

Please let me know how to get rid of this increasing swap space.
Can we recover the swap space without restarting weblogic server ?

This post seems out of context for a Cacti discussion board.

In this case, the simplest fix would be for you to add more physical RAM to your box and avoid using swap at all.

RAM is cheap by today's standards.
Thank you,
