Graph about average load on interfaces

Post by M.F.L. »

Hello Everybody!

I am new to cacti and i recently installed it on a Suse 10.2.
I managed to make cacti draw graphs about the cpu usage of a switch, the errors/discards and the bits/second on each interface.
The task is now to make cacti draw a graph that represents the average load and errors on all interfaces.
In general, that would be no problem. (Just sum up the values for each interface and devide them by the number of interfaces)
But now remember my first sentence. I am new to cacti (Not only new, but no know-how at all) and I have no idea where and how to start.
I clicked around and searched web, but so far, i did not find anything helpful to me.

What did i do until now?
- I created a graph template with the the Template Items traffic_in and traffic_out and the data sources Data Source[traffic_in] and Data Source[traffic_out].
- I created a graph in the graph management. I selected the template mentioned above, the switch as device, and as Data Source[traffic_in] and [traffic_out] the in- and outgoing traffic information.
- I also created a CDEF with the items ALL_DATA_SOURCES_NODUPS, 24 and "/", following the reverse polish notation.

That is about it. So, what do i get?
Sadly, nothing. Cacti does not draw me a graph, so here i am now, pleading for help.

Thanks in advance,
Marcus

This goes in the direction of AGGREGATING stuff. See my AGGREGATE plugin for this task

Thank you very much!
I will give it a shot and try it. Thanks!

/Yeah! That did it!
Thank you very much. I had no problems installing and using your plugin and it works just fine.
Once everything is implemented and working, i will donate something to the project.
