Datasource Grouping

Post by gjohnson »

Looking at dealing with what will easily become hundreds of datasources, I'm looking for easier management methods.

Can datasources be grouped together? I'd like to flip groups of DS active/inactive. Thus making it possible to watch [Cisco 2900] switch x & y (while not a-w). The problem is 30switches x 24ports x 2variables = 1440datasources. Quite a list. Monitoring switches 24/7 isn't an option...too resource intensive, etc.

Anyone with similar issues?

My complements to Ian, Cacti is great.

Thanks
Glen

This sort of feature will come, but not in the immediate future. The next major release of cacti is going to contain some serious scalability features on both the front and back-ends. One thing is for sure, cacti will be very template-based. It is one thing that is needed for large instllations as yours and others.

Hope I answered your question.
