snmp OID not collectable

Post by silgan24 »

I've a problem with an OID for an Cisco ITP Switch which accumulates cs7 Interface Traffic (Packets).

here is the snmpwalk:

Code: Select all

snmpwalk -v2c -c <community> <host_address> .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.333.1.1.1.1.6.16.76.111.103.105.99.97.67.77.71.32.83.83.55.111.73.80.1.11.76.83.78.48.73.84.80.68.85.83.50.10336.10337.3
the result:

Code: Select all

SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.333.1.1.1.1.6.16.76.111.103.105.99.97.67.77.71.32.83.83.55.111.73.80.1.11.76.83.78.48.73.84.80.68.85.83.50.10336.10337.3 = Counter32: 19975526
for me the snmp works correct and the OID is accessable.

but the RRDTOOL says:

Code: Select all

1187782500: nan
1187782800: nan
1187783100: nan
1187783400: nan
in the cacti.log there is this entry:

Code: Select all

08/22/2007 01:11:27 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[14] DS[791] WARNING: Result from SNMP not valid. Partial Result: No Such Instance cur
08/22/2007 01:11:27 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] Host[14] DS[791] SNMP: v2: ideo214, dsname: cgactMtp3InPackets, oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.333.1.1.1.1.6.16.76.111.103.105.99.97.67.77.71.32.83.83.55.111.73.80.1.11.76.83.78.48.73.84.80.68.85.83.50.10336.10337.3, output: U

Some time ago, cacti had a limitation on the usable length of SNMP OIDs. Yours is quite huge. Please tell us, waht cacti version you are currently running

Please select "System Utilities -> View SNMP Cache". Filter for your host and compare the OID to your original one. Is it truncated?

I couldn't find the OID in the SNMP Cache but i found it in the POLLER Cache:

Code: Select all

SNMP Version: 2, Community: public, OID: .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.333.1.1.1.1.6.16.76.111.103.105.99.97.67.77.71.32.83.83.55.111.73.80.1.11.76.83.78.48.73.84.80.68.85.83.50.10336.10337.3
	RRD: /usr/share/cacti/site/rra/itpdus1_10_30_30_50_cgactmtp3inpackets_TEST_802.rrd
and the OID is not truncated!

Maybe there exists a problem with "10336.10337" in the OID. It describes the Operation Point Code (OPC) and Destination Point Code (DPC). Is it not allowed that they are longer than 3 characters?

There's no limitation of that kind for parts of an OID. Did you follow second link of my signature to track that issue down?

snmp oid

Post by bigear »

I am using cacti version J. I am able to create graphs for my edge switch with Generic SNMP-enabled Host. Just wondering how do I create a graph by a SNMP oid? I did select "System Utilities -> View SNMP Cache". Filter for my host and use that OID for that particular device. Then I just follow the steps from gandalf on createing graph by SNMP OIDs. How come there is no data showing? any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The screenshot from Graph management does not help at this point. Please revise the second link of my signature to find the OID snmpget in cacti.log. Please post findings step-by-step
