[SOLVED] SNMP agent not responding in Vista

Hello,

I have problem monitoring a windows vista station in cacti.
I installed the snmp service and activate it.
I've added the device in cacti but get a "SNMP Error" when I click on it.
I launched a snmpwalk command on the vista station and get a timeout response
Apparently, the snmp agent is not responding to requests. I even try to desactivate Firewall on vista station, but no success.

Did any user manage to monitor a vista host in cacti and make snmp agent working?

I have and its exactly the same as Windows 2003. Make sure you specify a public community and allowed hosts, in the snmp service.

How to specify a public community and allowed hosts? and this setting is on Windows or on My Cacti Server?

I checked the configuration of the snmp agent. The public community is declared and all hosts are allowed to communicate.

If snmp doesn't work locally, then either the service isn't properly set up (you say it is) or a firewall / AV is blocking the snmp traffic.

I desactivated the windows vista integrated firewall and launched the following command locally:

snmpwalk -c public -v 1 127.0.0.1
=>Timeout: No Response from 127.0.0.1

On another windows xp host i launched the same command and it works!!!

Does anybody can reproduce the same test on a vista host?

run: netstat -a from the commandline. do you see port 161 listening?

Only TCP protocols are in state LISTENING.

I compared the results with an XP Host working in cacti and the the result of netstat -a is the same for snmp protocol.

Alright, so snmp is installed and listening; good.

Disable the windows firewall and antirvirus (what are you using anyways?). Run: snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 127.0.0.1 system on the Vista machine. Get any data?

So you're sure you've created a public community and granted ALL hosts to access it? restarted the service?

What firewall and antivirus are you using?

AV : Nod32
FW : Vista integrated one

I bet nod32 is blocking snmp. Figure out how to allow it. You might need to allow it in the Vista firewall too.

I momently desactivated NOD32 AV and Vista integrated Firewall
=> I get Timeout response again.

Don't you have a Vista host on which you can reproduce the same test?
