I've tested the latest SVN on my server #2 (see my signature), but didn't see any improvement :
  • 0.8.6i

    Code: Select all

    07/24/2007 09:11:42 AM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:100.4819 Method:cactid Processes:4 Threads:25 Hosts:312 HostsPerProcess:78 DataSources:8650 RRDsProcessed:4340
  • SVN

    Code: Select all

    07/24/2007 09:16:42 AM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:100.7853 Method:cactid Processes:4 Threads:25 Hosts:312 HostsPerProcess:78 DataSources:8650 RRDsProcessed:4340
The polling is SNMP only, 99% percent of the devices are Windows & Linux hosts.

"Maximum SNMP OID's Per SNMP Get Request" is 45

What is the average latency of all of your devices?

Code: Select all

select sum(avg_time) from host;

Something that may be important, I'm using "big" RRAs (8600 rows for the daily one).

Oh, then Boost is your solution. I have released v1.5 here recently. Should be ok to test. Also, post your finding relative to the PM that I sent you.

Since you are likely not on Windoz, you might want to give RRDtool 1.3 a ride. It claims an 80% reduction in Disk I/O. However, with the amount of memory you have on those boxes, I suspect something far more sinister, like bad kernel params or bad driver to your disk subsystem.

Hmm, what is your OS? Also, Wethermap may not be compatible with boost.

I'm using CentOS 4.5 / 5.0 on my Cacti boxes, and yes, PHP weathermap is used...

My server #1 will be rebuilt next month on a quad dual core w/ 16 Gb RAM, so I *think* polling will be faster...
