I'm new to cacti but was able to get it up and running quite easily ... However, I get kinda random error that halts data collection.
07/23/2007 01:44:56 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] ERROR: SQL Assoc Failed "select poller_output.output, poller_output.time, poller_output.local_data_id, poller_item.rrd_path, poller_item.rrd_name, poller_item.rrd_num from (poller_output,poller_item) where (poller_output.local_data_id=poller_item.local_data_id and poller_output.rrd_name=poller_item.rrd_name) LIMIT 10000"
07/23/2007 01:44:56 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] ERROR: SQL Assoc Failed "select poller_id,end_time from poller_time where poller_id = 0"
This is what I get in the log file over and over with interval of just one second. PS shows poller running and killing it and starting manually seems to getting things back to normal. I can also run the queries from mysql console without errors but one of them returns empty set.
Just wondering if it's a known issue or if I'm screwing something up.

Actually, I think the problem is MySQL and not Cacti. After performing certain task in Cacti (not sure what) mysql freaks out and stop working partially or all together. If I try to login from mysql console this is what I get ...
ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query
Does anyone know what this error might mean ... so far I am not able to find definitive answer but I'll keep searching.
