I would like to ask for 2 features regarding re-index method.
1) having the option of choosing the re-index method on the host template. In a host template i can add all data queries i need, but they are all added with 'uptime goes backwards'. i would love to have the ability of choosing the re-index method when adding data queries on a host template
2) having a new re-index method maybe named 'every hour' .... maybe 2 hours, 4 hours .... i want the reindex to occur sometimes, but not ALL times, which can be acchieved with 'Verify All Fields'. I also know i can use the poller_reindex_hosts.php from command line, but that would requires i know the host id. I would love to have the ability to reindex from time to time and have that managed directly on the web interface.
re-index method ....

But re-inexing takes QUITE some time. And accidentally re-indexing of all hosts of a decent installation would result in quite a mess ...

It's not possible to avoid 100% that people shoot their own feet. If some 'not-so-smart' cacti user/admin chooses 'verify all fields' in a decent installation, things will already be messy.
Your concern is valid .... at least not for my cactis, who handles no more than 30-40 hosts in a single cacti installation, connected through fast network links and cacti is running on a powerfull-enough machine. But that could certainly be a real problem on bigger installations.
And my main idea is to have the ability to reindex only some data query and not the hole device, which would be available through poller_reindex command line script. The idea is that the smart admin will reindex, from time to time, only those data queries that eventually got screwed.
I really think it would be a nice option, but if used in a not-so-smart way, will really make things messy, just like the 'Verify All Fields' is already capable of doing
