Hi Larry,

Final part:

$ gdb
GNU gdb 6.5.50.20060706-cvs (cygwin-special)
Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
GDB is free software, covered by the GNU General Public License, and you are
welcome to change it and/or distribute copies of it under certain conditions.
Type "show copying" to see the conditions.
There is absolutely no warranty for GDB. Type "show warranty" for details.
This GDB was configured as "i686-pc-cygwin".
(gdb) break *0x00406F72
Breakpoint 1 at 0x406f72
(gdb)

Could possibly be a dying forked process, as "The POPEN timed out" would often be in the log somewhere after a crash. However, as you mention, it may not be relevant anymore, as the MySQL client libraries have been updated.

You should post those log's to either my e-mail or PM.

Agreed, but I have been deleting the logs to prevent them from getting out of control. As a point of interest, the poller has been running wirh logging set to medium. Did you get the chance to fix the log format issue ?

Funny thing is that when Jimmy compiled, he received the error, but I am not. In fact I could not find the issue. I have fixed a few other ones though. Nothing should be significant though. They were simple formatting issue. You can update your SVN.

Thanks Larry.

CACTID has been running flawlessley (so far), apart from one strange overrun early this morning. It hasn't happened since, and is possibly attributed to our WAN to a remote office going up and down this morning.

CACTID Issues- HELP! [RESOLVED]

Post by mcutting »

Ok - it's been a few days now, so I thought I would post an update:

CACTID has been running FLAWLESSLY for ages now (thanks to TheWitness). I am now using the J version of the poller, and it seems to work fine.

I am now marking this thread as [RESOLVED] as there isn't any point in leaving it open anymore. However, if anyone else out there is using Windows, and wants to use CACTID, then the info contained in here would certainly help others (as it did me).

Any time frame on releasing this as a patch for windows? I'm having too many issues trying to learn how to compile *grin*.

I am at a customer site this week. We'll see what the weekend holds.

Thank you sir. Until then, where in the heck do you find the mysql binaries that you quote in this thread? I'm a pure mindless windows tech so when I go to the mysql site looking for client libraries all I see are RPM packages and I'm not all that sure how to pull the RPM into cywin.

Thanks again.

FreRange - if you can wait until tomorrow, I will post a compiled version of CACTID and the Cygwin binaries for you.

Oh sure thing! This was more of a learning question not a CACTI question. I don't want to be a mindless windows engineer anymore *grin* so on that note;

Within Cygwin, are the mysql binaries availably via the cygwin downloader/installer (I didn't see them) or are they off the mysql site? If there located on the mysql site what RPM package is used? And how is it installed? Or am I just blind and there is a source download?

Yeah, I know... I'm a needy *nix newbie *wink*.

FreRange,

You can get the MySQL source binaries from this link

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.0.html#source

DON'T download the Windows source !

You are also going to need the crypto binaries for Cygwin- suggest uou download and install it all if you have the disk space

www.cygwin.com

If you fancy having a go at compiling this yourself, take the latest CACTID from SVN, and do the following:

1. Cygwin full download and install
2. Net-SNMP binaries (net-snmp-5.1.4)
3. MySQL Client Binaries - make sure they are the UNIX binaries, and not WINDOWS (mysql-5.0.41)
4. Configure / install / make options for each

Net-SNMP

./configure --without-agent --disable-mib-loading
make
make install

MySQL

./configure --without-server --enable-thread-safe-client
make
make install

CACTID

autoconf;./configure
make
make install

Hope this helps. Let me know if you get stuck.

Wow this poller is fast!

Thanks for all the debugging and the links to the correct downloads!

Hi Mcutting

Sorry, but could I trouble you to post the binary? I'd like to give it a spin to see if it solves some of my issues, but I am having great dificulties compiling under cygwin.

Thanks for your time.

Kind Regards
