adding devices very slow

Hi,

I just installed a fresh cacti installation. But now I'm running into some problems. Here is my situation.

Server config:
MySQL Server version: 5.0.41-community-nt
MySQL client version: 5.0.37
PHP: Version 5.2.3
Cacti: 0.8.6j
RRDTool: rrdtool-1.2.15-win32-perl58.zip from http://oss.oetiker.ch/rrdtool/pub/?M=D
Net-SNMP: net-snmp-5.4.0-1.win32.exe from http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/download.html
OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2
Webserver: IIS6

As because the rest is optional I didn't use it. It should work with this config.

What is my problem?

Adding devices takes forever and when it is "finished" it only shows a blank page of host.php.

How to fix this?

Did you install Net-SNMP ? This should ideally be installed - you probably won't be able to walk SNMP OID's without it.

Actually net-snmp binaries are only really needed on linux systems or if you don't have the php-snmp module enabled.

Does the device you're adding respond to snmp or icmp? Could be cacti is timing out trying to reach it. Another possible problem is improper NTFS permissions on all the various cacti related files. Look in the FAQ, in my installation guide (in signature) for what files/folders need set.

Well, I already did a check on the NTFS permissions. It seems to be some kind of time out issue because when you close the browser and login again the device is present in the list.

The device are reachable via SNMP.

Okay, did a recheck on the recheck. All NTFS permissions are set as described.

When adding a device I get a blank host.php. Then when I click on Back in my Browser I'm presented with a blank "Devices [new]" screen.

Also when clicking on "Devices" the previously added device is present in the device listing. So device adding process is adding the device but not redirecting me back to...."Devices [new]" or "Devices" screen??? (this never worked so I don't know where this page should go to)

Also, did you enable sockets support in PHP ? There is a default 30 second timeout in PHP. If CACTI is unable to see the device (either SNMP is not enabled, or Net-SNMP not installed / no socket support), then you will get this blank screen.

I am getting the same problems with a clean install.

Was there any fix for this?

What I eventually did was switching to cactid.

Also what I found was a directory on my c-drive form net-snmp that I missed. The reason of missing this directory is because I installed everything on my e-drive instead of the c-drive. The installer of net-snmp annoyingly also puts a dir on c.

So check NTFS permissions, paths and swith to cactid.

Thanks, seems to have been because I didn't have the correct NTFS rights set on D:\Net-SNMP.
