Monitor traffic on an IP basis

Post by stuartornum »

Hi,

I have just installed Cacti onto one of my servers.

I also have OpenVPN installed with multiple client connected at the same time, they are assigned static IP so that I could monitor traffic by IP.

So my question is how do I go about monitoring total traffic for every IP I specify.

Thanks for your help.

This is usually known as "IP flow analysis". Unfortunately, there are no (standard) SNMP MIBs related to per-ip-traffic. So you have to stick to e.g. ipfilter/flowscan/cscan/ntop ... solutions. There's e.g. an ntop plugin and another one for flowscan (http://cactiusers.org). And there are scripts and templates for ipfilter stuff

Hi,

Thanks gandalf for your reply.

I think I have now installed plugin architecture, ntop and flowview.

How do I checked there are installed.

Also I cannot seem to find anything for cscan and ipfilter, not even in this huge list...

Thanks again for your help

To be honest, I did not use any of those plugins (but I know that some people love them). In fact, I only used ntop a few years ago :-?
So you will have to post to the topics of those plugins (e.g. at http://cactiuser.org)
