gandalf,
i think you don't have understand how the 3 templates works
you don't need the plugin
you only need the template TCP port
1-edit ports.inc (choose an open TCP port for this host)
2-apply the template TCP on a host
3-graph this TCP port
4-put a treshold (using thold) on this (0=host is down)

my plugin doesn't need interface
just produce a template which can create datasource and output 1 or 0

Gilles - As a point of interest, I setup 2 seperate test cacti boxes, each with the differing versions of PHP - one was using PHP 5.0, and the other 5.2.

I wanted to see if I could pinpoint the reason as to why the snmp poller doesn't work. My findings were unfortunately inconclusive - no matter which combination I tried, the snmp poller refused to work under any condition - does it work for you ?

Thanks

Yes, I have to confirm that you are correct (and I'm not proud of this fact, indeed).
you don't need the plugin
That's what came to my mind after I've written my last answer.
you only need the template TCP port
I'm not yet convinced of that. It assumes, that the target at least opens one well known TCP port. Well, in most cases this will work. But my mind was focussed on SNMP uptime checking, to be honest. I will have to re-think
1-edit ports.inc (choose an open TCP port for this host)
2-apply the template TCP on a host
3-graph this TCP port
4-put a treshold (using thold) on this (0=host is down)
I agree. This procedure, or a similar one, using some reading being monitored by thold would be a good solution. But I will have to check thold's NaN handling (Is NaN a low threshold breach? Or is it a "not allowed comparison" between different types of data: an absent one (NaN) and a given one (low threshold)). You see, I'm by no means a THOLD expert.

I was not wanting to insult, but I simply had some issues when trying to get MANAGE up and running. Some of them still persist; all of them are reported to this forum.

But the GUI experience of this plugin is really great. So I suppose I will come back.

Can someone explain to me how the manage plugin uses email? I haven't figured it out? If I have Cacti running on a Server 2003 machine do I need email settings loaded? We use groupwise, so would the machine have to have groupwise installed in order for it to use it's own email address/mailbox? Or is there other means of sending alert emails to a groupwise system?

While we are talking about email, i have a question too. I know thold host down notification doesnt work with cactid, but will the manage plugin host up/down/reboot work with cactid? Or does it still not work since it somewhat uses thold to send emails?

Yes - CACTID seems to be fully compliant with HOST UP/DOWN alerts in MANAGE.

Hi gilles

Thanks for this cool plugin

I manage to install and try it in the office.

I haven't fully try it out but here is the bug(is it a bug) i discover. I not sure anyone already found out or not.

Here is the thing:
From fresh installation of v0.51 or 0.5, during the first login, it prompt that it cannot find table of "manage_host" and "manage_site"

Subsequence login is successful but has the problem of unable to create group and site. Each time I add in new group/site, it does not appear and no error message.

I check the database and found out it does not have manage_site table.

I finally decided to drop all "manage_xxx" tables and create a new sql file in order to import into the database. The sql file is consist of all the "Create Table". I skip the INSERT settings because the settings already modified/added.

I import the sql (using phpMyAdmin) and successful. Do a quick test on creating new site and it works. After that, I went home. Will try further tomorrow.
