WMI scripts

Post by ABX »

I'm using some Cacti WMI scripts to query different information on servers. My problem is I do it on several domains with no trust relationship between them.

Is there a way to specify different credential for each domain?

The only way to do this is to allow EVERYONE access to your WMI in each domain. This is NOT recommended, as this creates a huge security hole in your LAN/WAN structure - particularly if your CACTI box sits on an outside network !

If you want to get near to WMI, and are using a *nix platform for your CACTI box, you could make use of check_nt. This is a service that can run on your windows machines, and collects performance counters of your choice.

To make life easier, Cigamit has created the CactiEZCD, which is a self building CACTI installation.

No, I'm using Windows 2003 server. The WMI scripts in my same domain works fine, since cacti poller is run with a domain account.

The problem are the other domains since I can specify only one account for cacti poller.

Ok, but the only way you are going to get this to work is to open up the security on WMI. Again, this isn't recommended, as it does create a security hole in your network.

I know, this is why I'm searching a way to specify different credential with the WMI scripts.

You can do this in the script itself. Have a look at

Maybe, but the scripts are not mine (Windows memory via WMI) and I use the same script for all servers.
