perms and blank graphs, why is this so hard?

Post by tek »

I have been trying for a few days now to get cacti working, i have had it working in the past and remember having issues on this same point each and every time and i have been searching on the boards since day one..

all my perms are as follows
drwxrwxr-x 14 nobody nogroup 1560 Dec 26 02:43 cacti/
drwxrwxr-x 2 cactiuser apache 72 Dec 24 10:48 log/
drwxrwxr-x 2 cactiuser apache 1416 Dec 24 11:30 rra/

cron is started by cactiuser and logs and rra appear to be updating by checking the logs

and cron is being fired off by the same user, when set into debug mode i am able to coax this much of an error message out but nothing else that helps.

this is happening after the export command has been run, the directory is owned by cactiuser and in the group apache and is set write-able. :(

It would be really nice if there was a "not working checklist" or better yet a script that you run that does all of the configuration checks on perms and such like several others packages i have messed with, just as a suggestion of course.

Cacti is awesome but i have had issues everytime i have tried to install it, for one its hard to know if its working cause you have to wait for data to be polled to fill your graphs. perhaps some rrd files we could stuff in just for testing??

It sounds like the script try to make a graph but has no parameters (ERROR: can't make a graph without contents). And after the first line the parameters are interpreted by the shell (sh: line 2: --rigid: command not found).

So check the syntax of your script or put it on the forum.

i finally gave up and deleted the cacti install and reinstalled, this time around i got it working, or at least most of the graphs are working. although i can do all of the snmp stuff from the command line none of it is populating any of the graphs.

be nice if we could download packs for various graphs based on systems, ie, windows, linux, routers...

still not used to this program, the older version was a bit easier i think to get graphs up and running of various things.
