Polling a non-SNMP-enabled host?

Hi All,

I'd like to help a colleague monitor his mail server via the TCP polling script, which I'm configuring to check port 25 connectivity. This method of port checking works great for my SMTP-monitored hosts, but because his server isn't SNMP-accessible, it appears that the script doesn't produce any output.

Is there something I'm missing, or is it only possible to run scripts on hosts that have SNMP connectivity? Any ideas for monitoring such hosts?

Hi

leave the SNMP community string empty, and your host will then be polled (you'll see a "SNMP not in use" message).

Is the snmp agent of the server mail is running?
if not try running it and as fmangeant said, leave the snmp community field empty
