Ah, thanks AndyStewrat. That's indeed a nice plugin. Now, it appears that this plugin checks the port using SNMP or ping. But I'm told by a co-worker that for services like smtp, problems most often arise even while the service is running. The guy told me that programs like Big Brother actually send...

Network Service Monitoring
Hi, I'm looking for a free (and preferably open-source) program to monitor services (like http, imap, pop, etc.) on hosts on the internal network. The program should be able to alert me (email or txt message) when something goes down. Was wondering if you guys know of anything. Note that I don't nee...

You will have to perform kex exchange for this user. When using ssh for Script Queries, this is even needed for the httpd's user (when running Verbose Query or adding the Query for the first time) This part is already done and working. If you think about adding partitions to a single graph, this wi...

[Performance] Time to draw graphs
Hi My graphs seem to draw very slow on the graph view pages. I was wondering if it's intrinsic to RRDTool or whether it's due to my slow system (Pentium II 400 Mhz, 128Mb RAM). The page for my Cisco 6500 Router has 185 graphs and it takes around 5 minutes for all the graphs to show up on Cacti. This...

Disk Usage through SSH script
I'm wondering if it's possible to do the following using Cacti: have a graph for a remote machine (not running SNMP) with a line for the used space (percentage) for each partition of the disk. So that will allow me to monitor the disk usage for each partition on the same graph, will be very helpful ...

How to restore backed-up graphs
I had to delete the graphs for a device from cacti and then add them again. I have the old rra files and now want to use them again. The problem is taht the old ones were named from cat6500_traffic_in_1.rrd to cat5600_traffic_in_180.rrd but the rra files generated after adding the graphs again are n...

Tree Presentation export
Hi, I'm using the tree presentation in cacti-0.86h and the static html pages are generated in /var/www/cacti/site/export/($TREE_NAME). Now, within each of the subdirectory ($TREE_NAME) there's an index.html which has the graphs for that tree. The problem is that the navigation bar on the left only s...

I'm running cacti-0.8.6h which I downloaded just a month ago. Its the same file as on http://cacti.net/download_cacti.php so it's the latest stable one. Now, there's no way to disable export because the cacti html pages are gone. Also, recovering files is impossible in ext3 filesystem. Unfortunately...

URGENT: export graphs DELETES everything!!!!
I used the "exoprt" option in settings so that I could have my graphs faster. I set the path as /var/www which is the root document directory for the apache server. Next thign I see is that all the files and directories in /var/www are gone!!! Cacti created a directory called "Default...

reinhard and egarnel, thanks for your replies. I think I know what the problem is. Typically if you do an SNMP query for ifAlias, the router returns the results in the form of .1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.1.<index> . However, as I said, in the Cisco CatOS, the port descriptions are stored not in ifAlias, b...

Cisco 6500 CatOS Port Names - Maybe this works?
Hi I believe that people have had problems matching the port names to the interface numbers in Cisco 6500 routers (see the following) http://forums.cacti.net/about4844.html http://forums.cacti.net/about2125.html Now in my 6500 I have the port descriptions set using the "set portname" comma...

[SOLVED] Running Cacti as root
The below works. Hi I would like to run Cacti as root, as opposed to as cactiuser. I changed the following: 1. All the directory/file permissions to root 2. The crontab entry 3. shell> mysql --user=root mysql mysql> GRANT ALL ON cacti.* TO root@localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'somepassword'; mysql> flush p...
