So I keep responding to my own posts. It works out in the end anyway.
In case anyone cares, I was able to get a workaround for this by simply associating the data source with a host. It can be any host because the data has nothing to do with it, but when associating it with a host I get my data.

Okay, I lied. Sorry, but I just realized I still had cmd.php selected. Now when I do select cactid in settings/poller/poller type and actually hit the save button, I do not have data for my Script/Command input types not associated with a host. Also, still nothing in the logs on debug mode. I notice...

Okay. I found the 0.8.6c version on the download page and compiled it, with the help of the modifications listed in a thread under the unstable versions topic. The scripts without hosts are now updating with this version of cactid.
