Re: Help me with your ideas for a new plugin!

hi phalek, i dont have any ideas for totally "new" plugins, maybe just added features to existing plugins. i'll just throw some of my ideas out: 1) ability to audit configurations of different devices, ability to send out mass config changes to devices 2) migration tool - i'm currently in ...

unfortunately, it looks as if with all "GAUGE" data sources, we have to live with the fact that rrdtool, automatically smooths this out. reading over at the rrdtool mailing list, tobi doesnt think this is an issue. the thinking is if instead of say 300 seconds between update 1 and update 2...

thanks gandalf for your response. i'm looking at my advanced ping graphs now, and the rrd file has data that's about 3-5% off from what's actually measured by the ss_fping script, just in case anyone else is wondering why their advanced ping graphs are a little off. i saw in another post you or tobi...

Hi I've been testing this out too and got the script from a post on here. I am able to get good results. Are you sending this to a Cisco router? If so, you can try doing a debug snmp packet to make sure it's even getting to the router. C:\>perl rping.pl -c ccccc x.x.x.x y.y.y.y rate:100 min:248 avg:...

advanced ping graphs - weird loss data

Hi all, running into a problem I can't seem to figure out. I'm using the Advanced Ping template/graph and have it setup to send 5 pings. See log output below: 08/03/2010 08:11:17 PM - SPINE: Poller[0] Host[1416] DS[4876] SS[0] SERVER: C:/Apache2/htdocs/cacti/scripts/ss_fping.php ss_fping x.x.x.x 5 I...

this is cool, it's for like a stock/currency graph charting? so there's no snmp involved, just graphing data in a table. it would be cool if cacti could do something like this, but i guess all you really need is rrdtool.

data_local and graph_local

i dont think the aggregate plugin would work, because the old host is going away, while adding a new one. i think you can do something similar to what I do when we have serial port or router changes at a site and i want to keep historical data. the two tables you need to modify are data_local and gr...

google "merge rrdtool". there are some scripts out there, the data structur the of the rrd files must be exactly the same. i've used them a couple of times before.

graph limits

i can't see it, but what value do you have for your lower limit in the graph template? perhaps if it is 0, it needs to be some negative value.

rping

I was looking for this too, there is a way to do it through snmp, but you need to create a script. following are some links i found:

seems like a awfully high amount of traffic...i have 1300 hosts with 25000 datasources and it uses about 100Kbytes/sec of traffic at most.

if you are looking to aggregate multiple graphs into one graph, look for gandalf's aggregate plugin.

yea it'd be nice if there were more options.

as gandalf stated, you can use:

% - any number of characters wildcard

so perhaps %infra% or %peering% or %pe%ing%

also i think you can use the _ which is a single char wildcard
